What is lanolin and where did it come from?

Lanolin is refined from the sheep’s wool to create a thick sticky oil that encapsulates rust and creeps down to the bare metal. This gives it some amazing metal preservation characteristics and its all natural! lanolin differs from petroleum based products mainly with its ability to not harm plastics, rubbers, and door seals. No sticky door seals, yes please, going further it also has zero solvents so it will stay wet and keep creeping and filling in bare spots as it is exposed to the environment. we use Wool Wax products due to their focus on quality, longevity and full transparency in their product.

to top it all off we are GM safe for our undercoating services! GM’s have come with a wax dipped frame for the few latest generations. though a good protective layer if it is all there, it can be punctured and compromised. wool wax is able to fill and fix these imperfections without harming the original wax. Wool wax is our entry level option to give our clients the best protection when a budget is in mind!

Aegis Anticorrosive Graphene Reinforced Clearcoat

Aegis is a product released by IGL in 2022, built for industrial application where other paints and surface coating have failed. IGL as a brand stands for 2 things; quality products and ensuring they aren’t harming you in the process. This standard for quality and safety is something that we can stand behind. when we heard about aegis we immediately started researching and asking questions. being so new to the world the only real way to know anything was for us to take a training course and get the product ourselves.

The product was beyond impressive and it is a perfect fit for our environment. This is what we use for our lifetime undercoating because it may not be the purpose it was built for but at the moment we offer one of the only true long term, anticorrosive, clear, and chemically resistant coatings on the market. some may market that their product will last a lifetime but that does NOT mean that the vehicle will. we are honest and transparent in our process and we believe in our products and our team.

Being able to bond to bare metal without a primer and minimal prep is one of the greatest parts of aegis and it truly is impressive at how well it does its job. Undercoating is just the tip of the ice berg for this product; incredible UV resistance, Clearcoat alternative for old oxidized paint, built for farming equipment to hold up against the chemicals and sun.

How much rust is too much?

Rusted 2020 ford expedition frame without undercoating

This 2020 Expedition only had 12,000 miles on it!

Being a permanent anticorrosive, Aegis needs a properly prepped surface that is free of moisture, air pockets, and as much rust as possible! Rust is porous and has a week bond to the bare metal so what this leads to is trapped air, and a week bond if it is covered up. This is how rust can exponentially get worse when covered with paint or a rubberized undercoating.

Our prep process is built for vehicles that haven’t seen too many miles or winters yet, ideally, we would like the frames with 90-95% of their integrity still present. going past this we risk compromising the coating and raise the chance of rust that isn’t seen coming through. it is important to us that we do our best to remove as much rust as possible and ensure an ideal surface for aegis to bond to.

what if theres already an undercoating?

fantastic! if there’s is still a solid amount of protection, keep it on there! bring it back in 6 months to a year and we can talk about cleaning it up for something more permanent.

is it warrantied?

Yes! we stand behind our work, but we understand that anything can happen. as long as we see the vehicle for an annual undercarriage cleaning, photo inspection, and touch up application for $149.99 we will stand behind that protection. this is another reason why pre-application condition is very important to us.

what if my vehicle is too rusty?

if your frame and/or undercarriage is too far gone we recommend our lanolin-based alternative called wool wax. due to the nature of wool wax, it is going to penetrate and encapsulate the rust that is existing, this means it essentially suffocates the rust and protects the bare metal from the outside elements. Wool wax is a fantastic alternative that is tried and true, Aegis is for that extra reassurance and the mechanic’s dream!
